Dangerous Goods Placards The Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and Regulations were enacted to promote public safety when dangerous goods are transported in Canada. This legislation is the result of a cooperative effort among federal, provincial and territorial governments and industry. Since the responsibility for controlling and regulating transportation is a shared one, the federal provincial and territorial governments are working together to ensure that dangerous goods requirements are uniform across the country for manufacturers and shippers and apply to all modes of transport - air, marine, rail and road. The links below provide a general outline of the classes of dangerous goods and their characteristics as well as general information on the responsibility of consignors to properly identify consignments of dangerous goods with the correct safety marks. For specific information, the Act ad Regulations must be consulted (see link above). |
