The Yield sign indicates to drivers that they must yield the right-of-way, stopping if necessary, before entering the intersection, and must not proceed until it is safe to do so. The Yield sign is an inverted equilateral triangle with sides 75cm in length. Oversized Yield signs may be used where the physical characteristics, collision experience or traffic speeds indicate that the 75cm sign will not have sufficient impact. Reduced-size Yield signs may be used on bicycle facilities to regulate the movement of cyclists. This condition applies where the cyclist must yield the right-of-way to other traffic, and where sight lines permit adequate visibility to allow a safe stop. In this case, the minimum dimension of the Yield sign is 60cm. Care should be taken to ensure that signs are placed on the bicycle facility so that they are not readily visible to drivers. |
